In 1978, Carlos Reutemann had his most successful season with four wins for Ferrari with the Ferrari 312T3, including the opening Brazilian Grand Prix, before finishing third in the championship behind the dominant Lotus drivers, Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson. He drove for Ferrari alongside Gilles Villeneuve but the team's cars had aerodynamic shortcomings compared to the Lotus 79, leading Reutemann to switch to Lotus for the following year after Peterson's tragic death at Monza.
