In 1982, Jacques Laffite competed in Formula 1 for Talbot-Ligier in the JS17 car, a season characterized by unreliability, which saw him finish in a disappointing 17th place in the championship with only 5 points scored. Despite this, Laffite was a very popular driver known for his rapid starts and strong performances, and he scored the Ligier team's only victory of the season at the 1981 Canadian Grand Prix.
