The Porsche 356 Pre-A is the earliest production version of the 356, produced from 1948 to 1955, and is characterized by its early design features, including a split or single-piece "bent" windshield. Initially built with aluminum bodies in Austria, production later moved to Germany where steel bodies from coachbuilder Reutter were used. These cars are known for their air-cooled flat-four engines, which varied in size and power, and are considered the foundational model for the later Porsche 911 design language.
